Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of WriteCompass. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use WriteCompass.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using WriteCompass, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you are using WriteCompass on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization.

2. Service Description

WriteCompass is a production system for turning knowledge and accumulated material into books and other substantial publications. The service provides a workspace for gathering material, discovering structure, developing manuscripts, verifying evidence, preparing publications, and managing publishing workflows.

AI-assisted tools are available within the workspace, but they are equipment, not authors. You remain solely responsible for the content and quality of your work.

3. User Accounts

You must provide accurate information when creating your account. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorized access.

  • You must be at least 18 years old to use WriteCompass.
  • You may not share your account credentials with others.
  • You may not use WriteCompass to create, publish, or distribute illegal, harmful, or infringing content.
  • You may not attempt to interfere with the service, exploit vulnerabilities, or scrape data.

4. Content Ownership

You retain full ownership of everything you create in WriteCompass. Your manuscripts, source material, notes, research, and all project data belong to you.

To operate the service, you grant WriteCompass a limited license to host, store, display, and process your content solely for the purpose of providing the features you use. This license ends when you delete the content or close your account.

We do not claim any rights to publish, sell, license, or otherwise exploit your work. We do not use your content to train AI models.

5. Token Purchases and Billing

WriteCompass operates on a token system. You purchase tokens to use AI-assisted tools, exports, and other metered features within the workspace.

  • Tokens are purchased in blocks. The current block size and price are displayed in your workspace.
  • Tokens do not expire. Unused balances carry forward into future projects.
  • Prices are subject to change. Changes apply only to new purchases after the effective date.
  • We do not offer refunds for consumed tokens. Unused token balances may be refunded on request within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Payments are processed through our payment provider. We do not store your payment card details.

6. Intellectual Property

WriteCompass and its underlying software, designs, trademarks, and content are the property of WriteCompass or its licensors. These Terms do not grant you any rights to our intellectual property except the limited license necessary to use the service.

7. Limitations and Disclaimers

WriteCompass is provided as is without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI-generated suggestions will be accurate, complete, or suitable for any particular purpose.

To the extent permitted by law, WriteCompass is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service.

You are solely responsible for the accuracy, legality, and appropriateness of the content you create and publish using WriteCompass.

8. Termination

You may close your account at any time by contacting us. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, abuse the service, or if required by law.

Upon termination, we will initiate deletion of your project data within a reasonable timeframe, subject to any legal obligations that may require short-term retention.

9. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms as the product evolves. Material changes will be communicated by email or through a notice in the workspace. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

10. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws applicable in the jurisdiction where WriteCompass is registered, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved through good-faith negotiation, and if necessary, through the courts of that jurisdiction.
