What we collect
To provide the service, we collect the information you give us and the information generated as you use WriteCompass.
- Account information: name, email address, and password (managed through Clerk authentication).
- Project data: manuscripts, source material, notes, outlines, citations, and research artifacts you add to your projects.
- Usage data: actions you take within the workspace, such as adding material, running tools, or updating your manuscript.
- Billing information: token purchases, payment confirmations, and transaction history (handled by our payment processor; we do not store payment card details).
- Support communications: emails, feedback, and any correspondence you send to us.
What we do not do
We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your project material with third parties for advertising or profiling. We do not use your manuscript, sources, or project data to train, improve, or fine-tune any AI model.
- We do not sell or rent your data.
- We do not use your content for AI model training.
- We do not share your material with other users.
- We do not build advertising profiles from your usage.
How we use your information
We use the information we collect only to operate, maintain, and improve WriteCompass.
- To provide the service: saving your projects, generating suggestions, preparing exports.
- To process payments: handling token purchases and maintaining your account balance.
- To communicate with you: account notifications, billing receipts, scheduled maintenance, and responses to support requests.
- To improve the product: understanding how the workspace is used so we can fix issues and add useful capabilities.
- To enforce our terms: preventing abuse, fraud, or unauthorized access.
How we store and protect your data
Project data is stored in secured databases with access limited to operational staff. We use encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest. Authentication is handled by Clerk, which follows industry-standard security practices.
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we initiate deletion of your project data within a reasonable timeframe, subject to any legal or billing obligations that may require short-term retention.
Cookies and analytics
WriteCompass uses first-party cookies to keep you signed in and to remember your preferences. We may use minimal, privacy-focused analytics to understand aggregate usage patterns. We do not use third-party advertising cookies or tracking pixels.
Your rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:
- Access: request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correction: update or correct inaccurate information.
- Deletion: request deletion of your account and associated data.
- Portability: export your project data in a usable format.
- Objection: object to certain processing activities.
